From 2nd/3rd July 1987 – A dying breed! Victoria Crawford closes down Thames for a couple of hours. In a few weeks Thames would be broadcasting 24 hours and the closedown would be consigned to history.

Thames News headlines at 0925 in 1986

Once formal startups became optional, the ITV companies starting filling the five minutes between TV-am going off air at 0925 and (schools) programmes beginning at 0930 with a variety of things, principally menus or local news.

Here’s Thames, as always falling on to air at 0925 thanks to the ever-unstable switchover from TV-am, and going straight into news read by a man with definitive mid-1980s hair.
